The Columbus Blue Jackets might own the worst record in the NHL, but that doesn't mean they haven't been playing better hockey than a few notable playoff teams over the last few weeks. Despite an NHL low 61 points on the year, the Blue Jackets are 5-5 over their last ten games and just had a three-game winning streak snapped out in Phoenix on Tuesday.
Columbus will try to continue its surge to close out the year on Thursday against a dangerous Colorado Avalanche team. The Avs, who have already clinched the playoffs, have dropped four of their last five games and appear to be skidding into the postseason. Colorado will also need to shake off a good deal of rust, as it has not played since Friday, April 30.
With 27 goals on the year, Blue Jackets forward Rick Nash is a mere three tallies shy of the 30-goal mark. Nash has already accomplished this feat six times in his career, and will be looking to pull it off for the fifth consecutive season if he can find a way to light the lamp three times over the remaining two games.
