Long-drive king Bubba Watson two-putted for par to beat Louis Oosthuizen in a playoff for the 2012 Masters championship on Sunday, adding his name to the record book as the next player to don a legendary green jacket.
Watson shot a final round 68 (4-under par) to tie Oosthuizen down the stretch and force a playoff. His drive on what proved to be the final hole went wayward into the woods, and it appeared he would be hard pressed to stay alive. But instead of hitting a safe, layup shot from behind trees to try to make par, Watson went for the green and hit a masterful shot to reach the green in two, while Oosthuizen failed to reach the green in regulation.
With this victory, Watson becomes the fifth lefty to win the Masters in the last ten tournaments. Watson is expected to take home an estimated $1.44 million for his handiwork over the weekend, with Oosthuizen clearing $864 thousand.
