Dwight Howard Trade Rumors: Cavaliers Bothered By Criticism Of Contributing To Another NBA Super Team, According To Report

Unwilling to be the third wheel in a blockbuster trade that would have sent All-Star center Dwight Howard to the Brooklyn Nets, the Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly bowed out of the trade for one interesting reason. According to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, the Cavs were bothered by the idea of creating yet another NBA super team:

Several league executives with knowledge of the negotiations believe the small-market Cavaliers had become sensitive to criticism they were contributing to the construction of another big-market super power.

Without a vital player like Cleveland locked into the deal to take forward Kris Humphries in a sign-and-trade, Brooklyn's chances at landing Howard decrease quite significantly. It's rare to see an organization in any sport looking out for the best interests of the entire league before its own personal ones as a team, but the Cavs are probably the most ardent of the anti-super team supporters in basketball right now, with good reason.
