Something had to give with two teams streaking in the wrong direction opening up a three-game series on Tuesday night.
In the end, the Cleveland Indians would lose their fourth-straight game 8-3 to the Kansas City Royal, a win which snapped KC's five-game losing streak. Cleveland starting pitcher Derek Lowe lost his fourth straight game, once again getting knocked out early giving up eight hits and seven runs in two and a third innings.
After giving up three runs in the first two innings, Lowe (8-10) didn't survive the third inning. A balk following a walk to load the bases started a 5-run rally for the Royals in the bottom of the third. KC second baseman Chris Getz then hit a two-run double to chase Lowe for good.
Right-hander Luke Hochevar (7-9) earned the win for the Royals giving up seven hits and three runs in six innings. Johnny Damon and Casey Kotchman both had run-scoring singles in the second inning, but Hochevar and the Kansas City bullpen were able to keep the Tribe from rallying the rest of the game.
The two teams will resume their series on Wednesday night at 8:10 p.m. ET.
