Columbus native Ben Curtis has had a rough go of it in major championships since finishing tied for second in the 2008 PGA Championship, missing the cut in six out of the 11 majors that he participated in and only finishing inside the top 20 once. But he changed that a bit at the 2012 PGA Championship, riding a strong Sunday performance to a finish just outside the top 10.
Curtis shot a 67 on Sunday, finishing the weekend at 2-under and tied for 11th place alongside seven other golfers, including Tiger Woods and Bubba Watson. That finish was good for $143,286 in prize money. Jason Dufner, who finished second in this tournament in 2011, barely made the cut but had a strong final two days, finishing at 1-over and tied for 27th.
But the winner was Rory McIlory, who blew away the field, finishing at 13-under. That was good for an eight-shot lead over second-place finisher David Lynn.
