The Ohio State Buckeyes are No. 18 in the preseason AP Top 25 college football poll and are the fourth-ranked team in the Big Ten Conference behind No. 8 Michigan, No. 12 Wisconsin and No. 17 Nebraska.
Southern California received 25 of a possible 60 first-place votes to claim the No. 1 spot. Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma and Oregon rounded out the poll's top five. Michigan got a single first-place vote, the only team outside of the top four and the lone Big 10 school to do so.
The Buckeyes are in their first season under new head coach Urban Meyer and face an NCAA-sanctioned postseason ban, but sophomore quarterback Braxton Miller is considered a good fit for the spread offense which won Meyer two national championships at Florida.
Ohio State kicks off its season Aug. 1 against Miami (Ohio) at Ohio Stadium.
