The 2012 U.S. Open begins Monday at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

Roger Federer enters the year's final Grand Slam as the top-ranked player on the men's side. Defending champion Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray pose the biggest threat to the top seed with Murray still fresh off his victory over Federer in the 2012 Olympic gold medal match. John Isner represents the best chance for an American champion, a feat which has not happened since Andy Roddick's title in 2003. Absent from the 2012 tournament is Rafael Nadal who is out with knee tendinitis.

On the women's side, Victoria Azarenka begins play as the top seed with defending champion Samantha Stosur as the seventh seed. Agnieszka Radwanska, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams and Petra Kvitova round out the top five.

Action begins Monday at 11:00 a.m. EST. For a complete listing of matchups and seedings, visit the official site at USOpen.org.
