The Cleveland Indians look to spoil the chances of the playoff hopeful Oakland Athletics this week, as the two clubs kick off a four game set Monday night in Cleveland.
With the series loss against the New York Yankees this past weekend, Cleveland has now lost 11 of 13 and drops their record to 5-19 in the month of August. Roberto Hernandez, or the pitcher formerly known as Fausto Carmona, takes the hill for Cleveland looking the end their current skid. Hernandez is 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA since rejoining the Indians this season.
For the Athletics, Brett Anderson will start his second game since returning from Tommy John surgery last year. In his one 2012 start, Anderson pitched seven strong innings against the Minnesota Twins, allowing only one run on four hits to pick up his first win.
Oakland is currently tied for the second Wild Card spot with the Baltimore Orioles, and stands only .5 games behind the Wild Card leading Tampa Bay Rays. They are 5.5 games behind the AL West leading Texas Rangers. Cleveland, at 55-72, is largely out of playoff contention.
