Both Novak Djokovic and Andy Roddick advanced in third round action at the 2012 U.S. Open on Sunday. The second-seeded Djokovic defeated Julien Benneteau in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. Roddick, who recently announced his intention to retire from tennis, took care of Fabio Fognini in four sets. Both players advanced to the quarterfinal round with their respective victories.
Elsewhere on the men's side, No. 4 David Ferrer defeated Lleyton Hewitt, and No. 7 Juan Martin Del Potro and No. 8 Janko Tipsarevic also advanced.

On the women's side, defending champion Samantha Stosur won her match in straight sets on Sunday. No. 1 Victoria Azarenka and Marion Bartoli also advanced. The match between Maria Sharapova and Nadia Petrova was delayed by weather and remains in progress. Sharapova leads four games to three in the decisive third set.
