2012 U.S. Open Update: Victoria Azarenka Advances

Victoria Azarenka stumbled in the second set, but the No. 1 seed at the 2012 U.S. Open was able to able to advance to the semifinals with a three-set victory over Samantha Stosur Tuesday afternoon. It is the first time that the 23-year old from Belarus has reached the U.S. Open semifinals, and she is is aiming for her second Grand Slam title of the year after winning the Australian Open.

Azarenka was overpowering in the first set, easily winning, 6-1, but she dropped a set for the first time in the tournament when Stosur took it, 6-4. The third and final set was another close one, but Azarenka won, 7-6, with a 7-5 tiebreaker for the final point.

Azarenka will now face the the winner of the quarterfinal between No. 3 Maria Sharapova and No. 11 Marion Bartoli.
