Neither the Ravens or 49ers have ever lost a Super Bowl. On Feb. 3, the 49ers will be gunning for their sixth Lombardi Trophy and the Ravens their second. A Ravens win would mean the second Super Bowl championship for the team, but the third for the city of Baltimore as the Colts went 1-1 in Super Bowls before leaving for Indianapolis. Of course, at one time this Ravens franchise was the Cleveland Browns, before they moved in 1996.
Few expected the AFC North champion Ravens to make the Super Bowl after ending their season on a 1-4 slide, but a three-game playoff run has given Ray Lewis a chance to retire on top.
The 49ers are a less surprising entry in the Super Bowl as they were favored in both of their playoffs games after winning the NFC West and taking the second overall seed in the NFC.
