SI's Peter King reported that Pat Shurmur could be hired by the Browns as their next head coach by Thursday, and Cleveland.com's Tony Grossi went even further to say the Browns would like to keep DC Rob Ryan with Shurmur as well, as long as the personalties blend.
Shurmur is the offensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams and has a long history in the West Coast offense that Browns' President Mike Holmgren prefers. Shurmur was a center at Michigan State and began working for the Eagles in 1999. He learned the West Coast offense from Andy Reid, who learned it from Mike Holmgren while they were both in Green Bay.
Rams HC Steve Spagnuolo hired Shurmur to be his offensive coordinator when he was hired by the Rams in 2009.
