The New England Patriots have reportedly made a surprise move Friday morning, releasing former Browns CB Leigh Bodden, according to Pro Football Talk. Bodden had been considered the Patriots' best cover corner this season, despite coming off a series of injuries that had limited his play the past few years.
↵Patriots head coach Bill Belichick would not confirm or deny the report and when asked about Bodden's play, Belichick replied, "we'll skip that right now".
↵Classic Belichick.
↵One has to wonder exactly what Bodden may have done to warrant his outright release. The Patriots face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, and to release a major contributor on Friday morning is highly unusual. He had been listed as Questionable on the Patriots injury report this week.
↵Bodden spent his first five NFL seasons with the Browns - from 2003 through 2007 - before being traded to the Detroit Lions. He has been with the Patriots since 2009.
