The back and forth continues. While some analysts and draft experts have the Browns going defense, defense, defense with the #6 pick, still others are holding onto the idea that Cleveland will go with a WR in the first round.
I’ve seen Julio Jones up there, and still think that would be a stretch, especially with one (or more) of Quinn, Dareus, Bowers or Fairley available, but I am still on board with A.J. Green if he falls into the Browns’ lap.
The National Football Post has that happening in their first mock draft of the year:
6. Cleveland Browns: A.J. Green, WR, Georgia
Adding a dynamic threat at the receiver position is a must for the Browns this offseason. And Green has the talent to come in and become an impact guy early in his NFL career.
Look, I’m as high as Green as the next guy, and I really would be okay with it, but if that is the case, the Browns absolutely need to make up for it on the defensive side of the ball in the off-season and the rest of the draft.
With the recent cuts, the team is thinner than ever on the line and at LB, and if they want any chance of contending this year, they need to address that with a sense of urgency.
