Lost in the Green Bay Packers win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV was the Black Eyed Peas Halftime Show. I, for one, was excited for the Peas being a fan of their music. What we got, however, was a mix of Black Eyed Peas hits along with some Guns N' Roses along with Usher and, wait for it, music from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack.
↵Starting out with "I Gotta Feelin," Will I. Am, Fergie and the bunch came down from the ceiling in attire that looked more like Tron than hip-hop. The group proceeding to go through their hits one by one before Slash of Guns N' Roses began the familiar riffs of 'Sweet Child O' Mine.' Not only did Slash enter from the floor, but Fergie did her best Axl Rose impersonation, actually sounding more masculine singing the classic that Rose himself ever did.
↵Next came Usher, singing his hit "Oh My God," which of course features Will I. Am.
↵Lastly, Will and Fergie burst into "The Time Of My Life," the chart-topping hit from Dirty Dancing. So, we had some old-time rock and roll, some movie soundtrack, a bit of Usher and of course, Black Eyed Peas hits.
↵Overall, I give the halftime show a solid B. It was obvious with the poor sound that the Peas weren't lip-syncing, and that is a win anytime it happens. After that, I put this show behind U2 in Super Bowl XXXVI and Prince at Super Bowl XLI. Tom Petty was solid as well, but I really enjoyed the Peas performance.
