Cleveland Browns linebacker D'Qwell Jackson has garnered a first for a Browns' player on either offense or defense since the awards were instituted in 1986, and been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for September.
↵The complete story released by the Browns outlines the stats that got Jackson the award, such as his team-leading 30 tackles and his 2.5 sacks. His tackles total is fourth in the NFL, and in sacks he is second among AFC linebackers.
↵Jackson also has a pass break-up, a forced fumble and a recovered fumble to his credit in 2011.
↵When you think back to the days of Kosar and Slaughter and Byner and Mack on offense, and Dixon and Minnifield on defense, and consider all the other marquee players Cleveland has had in the last 25 years (minus three years, of course), and then realize that none of them were ever Player of the Month...this is quite an achievement.
↵Congratulations D'Qwell!
