2012 NFL Mock Draft: Browns Once Again Trade Up For Robert Griffin III

The scenario has been played out almost ad nauseum in seemingly every mock draft on the internet, but once again we have a scenario where we see the Cleveland Browns trading up to get the 2nd overall pick and grab Baylor QB Robert Griffin III. The SB Nation 2012 NFL Mock Draft has the scenario where Cleveland trade both of their first round picks to St. Louis for the opportunity.

2. Cleveland Browns (Projected trade: from St. Louis), Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor

Trade! Huzzah! Surprise! The Browns sent both of their first round picks to St. Louis in exchange for the No. 2 overall pick and the rights to RG3. Actually, there is no surprise here. It just looks so wrong to put Griffin any lower than this, even for a mock draft. Cleveland may or may not trade up. I wouldn't be surprised if they stayed where they are out of organizational arrogance thinking that they can get something out of Colt McCoy. RG3 would make them relevant again, for years to come. They have to do something.

Certainly it isn't a raw deal for Cleveland, getting their QB of the future is worth a 22nd overall pick. The mock is absolutely right on the Browns needing stability at the position with Colt McCoy looking less and less like the answer there every day. He'll likely be out of Cleveland regardless of what happens with Griffin, even if it means that St. Louis take him in the draft and the Browns have to pick up Packers QB Matt Flynn to take over the vacant position.
