Well, that didn't take long. In the same hour Jimmy Haslam III was officially approved as Browns owner, ESPN reported that team President Mike Holmgren was out and Joe Banner was in, effective immediately. It was just about the worst-kept secret in the league that Banner was joining the Haslam regime when he officially took over as owner. That likely put Holmgren on the outside-looking-in, with only the issue of timing still up in the air. According to Adam Schefter, Holmgren will retire at the end of the season, but Banner is coming aboard right away:

Browns president Mike Holmgren will retire at the end of this season and former Eagles president Joe Banner is being named the Browns new CEO effective immediately, according to league sources. New Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is expected to make the announcement today.

There's some initial confusion over whether Holmgren was fired or if he'll retire at the end of the season, but one thing is for sure: Banner is taking control immediately. Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan reports that Haslam will announce Banner as chief executive later on Tuesday, and that Banner could be introduced Wednesday morning in Berea.
