NFL Draft 2012: Morris Claiborne Will Undergo Wrist Surgery On Friday

Former LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne will undergo surgery Friday to repair a torn ligament in his left wrist, he told the New Orleans Times-Picayune after his Pro Day Thursday. Via Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer:

Claiborne said he suffered the injury during LSU's 9-6 overtime victory over Alabama Nov. 5, but played with it the remainder of the season.

It's not yet known how long Claiborne will be out of football activity. Some teams have minicamps the weekend after the NFL draft, which is April 26-28. Claiborne is expected to be a top five or six pick in the draft and is widely regarded as the best defensive player in his class.

Peter Schrager of Fox Sports has the Cleveland Browns taking Claiborne with the fourth overall pick in his latest mock draft. Claiborne is considered a better NFL prospect than fellow former LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson who went fifth in last year's NFL Draft.

Claiborne ran a 4.39 second 40-yard dash at LSU's Pro Day on Thursday, besting his time of 4.47 seconds at the NFL Combine.
