NFL Draft 2012: Ryan Tannehill Has Scouts Raving After Texas A&M Pro Day

Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill had an incredible pro day workout, according to all the draft scout experts. Many are now saying the Browns would be foolish to pass on the tall athletic quarterback with the No. 4 pick, and that the Dolphins will be there to snatch him up at No. 8. Todd McShay went so far as to say on TV that the Dolphins may trade up even to No. 3 to select Tannehill. McShay sees the Browns as a good fit:

"I would say the Browns, because they are a better team," McShay said when asked which team was a better fit for Tannehill. "They have better parts around the quarterback position. Miami, I'm not sure what the plan is when I look at the Miami organization. While they have Matt Moore and they brought in [David] Garrard, I just don't know if you want to bring in a young quarterback with everything else that's going on in Miami."

NFL Network scout Mike Mayock raved about the workout as well, imploring the Browns to take him at No. 4:

"I believe if you've got a franchise quarterback available and you can upgrade your position, you have to do it," Mayock told NFL Network. "This kid ripped the football, he ran 4.63, his foot is fine. Is he ready to play Day 1? Absolutely not. So what do I see with Ryan Tannehill? I think Cleveland has to take him at four. They upgrade the position both athletically and with arm strength."

Charley Casserly joins Gil Brandt and Mayock, also writing that Tannehill is well worth the top ten pick. Brad Childress, who was in attendance while Tom Heckert and Pat Shurmur attended Trent Richardson's workout, told the Forth Worth Star-Telegram that Tannehill showed that he's capable of doing things at an NFL level.

This was the first time he really got to put on a show for the scouts, after sitting out the Senior Bowl and combine due to injury. With his stock already soaring, it appears today solidified his top ten status and perhaps even top five status.
