Brad Wells at SB Nations's Mocking The Draft completed his first Friday Mock Draft, in which he had the Cleveland Browns selecting Alabama running back Trent Richardson with the fourth pick.
The Browns seem set on moving on from Colt McCoy at quarterback if they have the chance, but, in this simulation, the Kansas City Chiefs trade up to third pick to select Ryan Tannehill. Cleveland's offensive coordinator Brad Childress raved about Tannehill after seeing him workout at Texas A&M's Pro Day, but if he is off the board, there's not another quarterback worthy of being drafted this high.
The Browns desperately need to improve their offense and Richardson is a stud, both running the football and catching the ball out of the backfield. Here's what Wells had to say about the pick:
Once again, the Browns are left holding the bag when it comes to trading for or drafting a potential franchise quarterback. So, instead of making moves to find an elite QB, they do what everyone expects them to do. They take Richardson. Don't get me wrong. I think Richardson is a very talented back. However, in the modern NFL, talented backs don't win games. Quarterbacks do.
