With the No. 87 pick of the 2012 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns have selected John Hughes, a defensive tackle from the University of Cincinnati. These NFL Draft 2012 results go against the projection for Hughes, as many evaluators didn't think Hughes would be drafted.
As a senior at Cincinnati this past season, Hughes had 51 tackles, including 12.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. A year ago, Hughes wasn't much of a pro prospect, but he dedicated himself like never before and had a solid senior season. His stock has steadily been on the rise for the past few months. Mike Mayock of NFL.com said Hughes isn't elite in any one category, but would be a solid rotational player.
The Browns' next pick is the No. 100 overall pick in the fourth round. After going on offense with their first three picks, the Browns went defense with the Hughes pick. Cleveland was No. 30 in the NFL in rush defense and No. 23 in sacks. At 309 pounds, Hughes is a big body the Browns hope will be able to help on the inside.
He may be an unknown, but these Browns fans seemed happy about the pick. Or maybe it's just because they were on TV.
