2012 NFL Draft: Browns Soured On Colt McCoy After Comments By His Father

It appears that one of the main reasons why Colt McCoy is about to be replaced by Brandon Weeden as quarterback of the Cleveland Browns is that the organization was unhappy with comments that his father made, according to Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland.

I’ve been told that McCoy’s fate as a former starter was sealed when his father sounded off about the club’s handling of his concussion in the Pittsburgh game on Dec. 8. I was told at the time that Brad McCoy’s comments meant the end of McCoy in Cleveland, but I didn’t believe it then. The comments did not drive the pursuit of a new quarterback, but I believe they contributed to McCoy’s demise.

Grossi also added that Seneca Wallace felt like it wasn't his job to mentor McCoy, but he is fine with taking on the same role for Weeden because the Oklahoma State quraterback was a first-round pick.

Finally, Grossi says the Browns original plan was to draft receiver Kendall Wright with the No. 22 pick and Weeden at No. 37, but once the Tennessee Titans selected Wright, they decided to just pick Weeden earlier.
