Browns Roster Projection: Usama Young On The Way Out?

It's the final day for expanded preseason rosters in the NFL, and the Browns will have to cut down to the final 53-man squad by Friday evening. While the jostling at quarterback has been getting plenty of the headlines, some other veterans may have their tenure with the Browns end on Friday. Safety Usama Young, once thought a near lock for the roster, may be edged off the final 53 after the surprising preseason performance of David Sims.

Dawgs By Nature released their final roster projection on Friday morning and Young, who didn't play on Thursday against the Bears, is on the outside-looking-in. From DBN's Chris Pokorny:

The other change swapped two defensive players: LB Benjamin Jacobs and S Usama Young. I was a little alarmed to see that Young did not play at all against the Bears. The coaching staff has made up their mind on him already. He might not be in jeopardy, but I am taking him off for now.

The injury to James-Michael Johnson on Thursday night adds further uncertainty to a banged-up linebacker corps. That could influence the Browns to move Jacobs onto the roster, as Pokorny has done in his projections. In addition to Young now moved off the roster, Pokorny also swapped out Stanley Daniels in favor of Oniel Cousins.
