The Cleveland Cavaliers didn't have any of their new-comers tonight when they faced the New York Knicks at The Q. The Knicks have Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups, not to mention a winning record. None of that mattered tonight as the Cavaliers once again displayed grit and determination in beating the Knicks for the second time this season 115-109.
Baron Davis, Semih Erden and Luke Harangody are on their way but weren't available tonight. Despite the short bench, the Cavaliers played nine guys and scored 115+ points for the second game in a row. Antawn Jamison led the Cavaliers with 28 points and 13 rebounds while J.J. Hickson had 24 points and 15 rebounds. Ramon Session chipped in with 22 points and 8 rebounds.
Carmelo Anthony was as-advertised for the Knicks finishing with 27 points and 8 rebounds while Amare Stoudemire went off for 31 points and 11 rebounds for the Knicks who fell to 1-1 with Anthony. At times the Knicks offense looked unstoppable, but as expected the left little to be desired with their defense.
Down by as many as 9 points in the 3rd quarter, the Cavaliers battled back to take the lead with 7 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. Despite how competitive the game was, the Cavaliers never fell behind again. The Cavs built a 12-point lead in the 4th quarter before Carmelo, Amare and Chauncey started bringing the Knicks back. New York was able to get within two points several times but each time the Cavaliers were able to hit a big shot.
Daniel Gibson hit a huge three and Antawn Jamison had several big buckets down the stretch to ensure the Cavaliers go the win. Both teams shot 42% from the field, but the Cavaliers out-rebounded the Knicks 62-42 in as dominating performance on the glass as the Cavs have seen all season.
The Cavaliers are back in action on Sunday against the Philadelphia 76'ers at The Q.
