The 2012-13 NBA Rookie of the Year odds are out, and Cleveland Cavaliers guard Dion Waiters is listed with the seventh-best odds to win the award this season.
No. 1 pick Anthony Davis is the presumptive favorite (19/10) and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is second (9/1), followed by Bradley Beal (10/1), Harrison Barnes (12/1), Jonas Valanciunas (12/1), Thomas Robinson (19/2) and then Waiters (15/1).
The subtle implication is that Waiters was drafted too high, or that his learning curve will be more steep than some of the other young rookies on developing teams, but it isn't exactly cause for concern. Byron Scott can be tough on rookies with playing time, so that might also be another factor.
Meanwhile, Tyler Zeller fits in with 30-to-1 odds, but he's not even the best longshot because Andre Drummond is also listed at 30-to-1.
