Dion Waiters injury: Cavs guard questionable for Pistons game

Cleveland guard Dion Waiters is listed as a 50/50 shot to play on Monday due to a left ankle injury.

Spruce Derden-US PRESSWIRE

After injuring his left ankle late on Saturday night against Portland, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Dion Waiters is now listed as questionable for Monday evening's game with the Pistons according to an official release on the team's website.

The 20-year-old Waiters is currently second among all NBA rookies at 15.2 points per game, but made just four of his 17 field goal attempts in Saturday night's loss before suffering the injury. X-rays taken late Saturday proved to be negative, while an MRI taken early Sunday confirmed that Waiters did indeed suffer an ankle sprain.

Though Waiters traveled with the team to Detroit, he will remain a 50-50 chance to suit up for the 7:30 p.m. ET tip. The Pistons bring a stellar 4-3 record at home this season despite a woeful 1-10 mark on the road, but have dropped two straight games to Western Conference opponents. If Waiters is unable to play, backup shooting guard Daniel Gibson would likely move into head coach Byron Scott's starting lineup.
