Incoming Browns owner Jimmy Haslam III is establishing roots on the North Coast, with news surfacing that he and his wife have purchased a home in Bratenahl. The price tag on the mansion was a reported $4.1 million, and the sunset views over Lake Erie were a big draw.
The billion-dollar sale of the Browns to Haslam is expected to be finalized before the end of October, so the $4.1 million for the home seems like a drop in the bucket. His wife, Dee, spoke to The Plain Dealer on what sold her on the property, leading to this particularly amusing quote:
"We don't have basements like that," said Dee Haslam, referring to Knoxville, Tenn., where the couple owns an English Tudor. "Ours are just storage areas. Every house I looked at in Cleveland had the most fantastic basements I've ever seen. It's basement mecca."
Ah, a lot of easy jokes there with the "basement mecca" bit. It sounds like the Haslams will spend time throughout the season at the home, from July through January. That allows for at least three solid months to enjoy the patio at Shoreby, which could be more pleasant than traveling down the shoreway to watch their team.
