The Indians gave it a valiant effort. A seven-game winning streak through Friday had them one game short of 70 wins, and even today, in losing their season finale in Chicago 6-5 to the White Sox, the Tribe tallied two in the ninth inning to make it tantalizingly close.
But alas, it was not meant to be, and with today’s loss, for the first time since 1927-1928, the Indians have failed to reach seventy wins in two consecutive seasons.
Yes, even in the dark years of Tribe baseball before the opening of Jacobs Field, they somehow managed to never have back-to-back seasons of such futility since the schedule was expanded to 162 games.
But the Browns won today. Good news of some kind is always welcome.
See you in 2011, Indians. And thanks for the effort in the last couple of weeks.
