Indians Come Back From Three Down, Complete Doubleheader Sweep Over Detroit

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) – Michael Brantley tripled among two hits and scored the game-winning run on a suicide squeeze, leading the Cleveland Indians to a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers and a sweep of Wednesday’s doubleheader at Progressive Field.

In the first portion, Mitch Talbot helped the Indians win, 4-0, with seven shutout innings.

Brantley also drove in a run in the nightcap for Cleveland, which tied a season-high with its sixth straight win, a streak that includes a sweep of this three-game set. Trevor Crowe put down the successful squeeze bunt, and Jayson Nix added an RBI.

Josh Tomlin (6-4) earned his fifth winning decision out of his last six after allowing three runs on nine hits in five innings. The bullpen pitched four shutout innings, and Chris Perez earned his 23rd save.

Ryan Raburn hit a two-run homer for the Tigers, who have lost three straight following a four-game win streak. Justin Verlander (18-9) came in having won four straight starts, but allowed four runs, seven hits and two walks while fanning 10 in seven innings.
