The Cleveland Indians avoided arbitration with SS Asdrubal Cabrera late Monday by agreeing on a one-year deal worth $2.025 million. Cabrera was one of four Indians eligiable for arbitration and the first that has agreed to a deal. The others – pitchers Chris Perez and Rafael Perez and outfielder Shin Soo Choo – need to come to terms today or an arbitrator will settle the dispute.
According to Cleveland.com, the contract represents a heft raise for Cabrera – $1.58 million over his 2010 contract – making Cabrera the 4th highest paid player on the cost-cutting team.
Cabrera, 24, his .276 last season with 39 runs, 16 doubles, three homers and 29 RBI. He missed two months of the season with a fractured forearm.
