Josh Tomlin Goes For 10th Win In Arizona On Tuesday Night

A pair of pitchers hoping to win their tenth game of the year will hook up on Tuesday night when the Indians meet the Diamondbacks in the middle game of their three-game series.

Josh Tomlin (9-4, 3.95 ERA) will get the call for the Tribe in the 9:40 p.m. game. Tomlin has emerged victorious in his last two starts, beating Pittsburgh and Colorado in Cleveland.

Tomlin will be facing Arizona for the first time in his career. Josh is 3-3 on the road this season with a 4.63 ERA away from Progressive Field, with that inflated ERA due in large part to having given up 16 runs in 17 innings in his last three road starts.

Tomlin’s opponent will be Arizona right-hander Daniel Hudson (9-5, 3.58 ERA), who will also be facing tonight’s opponent for the first time.

Hudson is 5-2 at home this year with a nice 3.16 ERA. Hudson has won his last six decisions after beginning 2011 at 3-5, and has also won his last three starts in succession.

In his last appearance, Hudson defeated the Royals in Kansas City last Thursday. In that 5-3 D-backs’ win, Hudson went seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits, with a walk and a strikeout.

In his career, Hudson has amassed a record of 18-8, and an ERA of 3.08 in 222 innings. Hudson was originally a member of the Chicago White Sox, for whom he appeared in nine games before joining Arizona during the 2009 season.

With their win last night, the Indians remained one game behind the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central. Detroit will be opening a three-game series at home tonight against the New York Mets.

This series will conclude with a game on Wednesday afternoon at 3:40, with Carlos Carrasco (7-4, 3.62 ERA) opposing the Diamondbacks’ Zack Duke (1-2, 5.73 ERA).
