One Of The Worst Baseball Calls Ever

Last night, while most of us were sleeping, there was a 19-inning game...and in the bottom of the 19th...

This must be seen to be believed.

I am by no means a Pittsburgh fan in any sport, but the way the Pirates were jobbed last night in Atlanta -- a Pirates' team that is embroiled in a four-team pennant race in the NL Central -- man, you have to feel bad for the Buccos and for their fans.

The throw got to the plate in time for the catcher to order Chinese to be delivered to the clubhouse and to still deliver the tag.

↵

And it was a tag, no question...while the runner was a good five feet from the plate.

↵

I propose replay in baseball along the lines of the NFL -- a manager would get one or two challenges per game, period, but if a manager would have ever had an excuse to throw the metaphoric red-flag, it would have been Clint Hurdle last night. The challenges would only be allowed on safe-or-out calls.

Ah, but this is not the time or place for such a discussion. But then again, if the Pirates miss the playoffs by one game...
