Last night, while most of us were sleeping, there was a 19-inning game...and in the bottom of the 19th...
↵This must be seen to be believed.
↵I am by no means a Pittsburgh fan in any sport, but the way the Pirates were jobbed last night in Atlanta -- a Pirates' team that is embroiled in a four-team pennant race in the NL Central -- man, you have to feel bad for the Buccos and for their fans.
↵The throw got to the plate in time for the catcher to order Chinese to be delivered to the clubhouse and to still deliver the tag.
↵And it was a tag, no question...while the runner was a good five feet from the plate.
↵I propose replay in baseball along the lines of the NFL -- a manager would get one or two challenges per game, period, but if a manager would have ever had an excuse to throw the metaphoric red-flag, it would have been Clint Hurdle last night. The challenges would only be allowed on safe-or-out calls.
↵Ah, but this is not the time or place for such a discussion. But then again, if the Pirates miss the playoffs by one game...
