Home Again? Indians Place Waiver Claim On Jim Thome

Jim Thome could be on his way back to Cleveland if the Indians and Twins can work out a trade for the Tribe's All-Time leader in home runs.

Can Jim Thome come home again?  If the Cleveland Indians have their way that's exactly what will happen.  It has been reported that the Indians placed a waiver claim on Thome, 40, who is currently a member of the Minnesota Twins.

The Twins placed Thome on Waivers earlier this week and after clearing the Indians placed their claim.  If no team with a worse record made a claim the Indians would have 48 hours to make a deal with the Twins to acquire Thome.  Some believe the Chicago White Sox, whom Thomas played for from 2006-2009, also placed a claim but that has been cast in doubt.  The Sox already have Paul Konerko and Adam Dunn, both players whom have been relugated to DH duty.

The Indians have a huge need for a DH after Travis Hafner was placed on the disabled list with a foot strain.  Even at 40 years old, Thome is having a decent season, hitting .253 with 12 homers and 40 RBI.  Thome is hitting .290 with six homers and 21 RBI since the All-Star break.

Thome became the 8th player in Major League history to hit 600 home runs on August 15.
