MLB Rumors: Jason Bay has Indians on short list of teams he's considering

Jason Bay reportedly has the Indians on a short list of teams he's considering as a free agent.

Former Red Sox slugger turned Mets free agent bust Jason Bay is reportedly interested in joining the Indians. Coming to Cleveland would reunite Bay with his former manager in Boston, Terry Francona. Buster Olney of ESPN reported that the Tribe is one of the teams on Bay's short list, as familiarity with his new club is one of the aspects he's weighing when making a decision. Francona would certainly fulfill that aspect.

Bay's name has been connected to a number of clubs, including the Red Sox. He's an unexpected free agent this winter, as he had one guaranteed year left on his hefty contract with the Mets. There was also money owed to him for the year 2014 if New York opted to decline an option. But the team agreed to a payout and parted ways with Bay, instantly making him an unrestricted free agent. He was given the full $21 million still owed to him.

Bay was productive under Francona with the Red Sox, but his numbers plummeted in New York. He was injured in three seasons with the team and never hit more than 12 homers or over .260.
