Hoping to add one of the game's premier corner infielders of the last decade, the Cleveland Indians are among a group of teams that have offered a contract to free agent Kevin Youkilis according to NESN, reported by Nick Camino of WTAM 1100.
A three-time All-Star, the 33-year-old Youkilis hit a career-low .235 last season with both the Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox. While he finished with the single lowest strikeout-to-walk ratio of his eight-year MLB career, he still managed to smack 19 home runs over just 438 at bats to intrigue plenty of teams on the free agent market.
Already on good terms with new Indians manager Terry Francona after the two essentially broke into the big leagues together in 2004 with Boston, Youkilis has already garnered a number of contract offers from around the majors, according to the report. His lengthy injury history could make him a possible risk for a rebuilding Indians team going forward, but Youkilis still has a great shot to wind up in Cleveland due to his relationship with the new regime.
