The Cleveland Indian survived a ninth inning rally from the Chicago White Sox (13-16), improving to 16-11 with an 8-6 victory at Progressive Field Monday afternoon. The teams will also play a nightcap at 7:05 ET as the Indians send Josh Tomlin to the hill.
The Indians knocked White Sox starting pitcher Phillip Humber from the game in the third inning, after scoring eight runs on nine hits. Michael Brantley and Casey Kotchman each tagged Humber for three RBI doubles before Chicago went to the bullpen.
Jose Quintana stopped the bleeding for the White Sox, surrendering just one hit the rest of the way after replacing Humber on the mound. Zach McAllister earned the victory for Cleveland, pitching six innings while allowing four runs, only two of which were earned. Nick Hagadone closed out the game after Jairo Ascensio allowed two runs in the top of the ninth inning.
