If the Cleveland Indians offense keeps it up, then Justin Masterson better keep it up too.
Masterson, who takes the hill Tuesday in Game 2 of the Indians' three-game set against the New York Yankees, has been on some kind of roll lately. In his last three starts, Masterson, 4-6, hast pitched 23 innings with 24 strikeouts, three walks and just one earned run. The Tribe is 2-0 in Masterson's last two starts, including his complete-game shutout on June 20.
Alas, the Cleveland offense has been in a slumber lately. In their last four games, the Indians have a grand total of five runs. In its last 13 games, Cleveland has scored three runs or fewer eight times, including Monday's 1-7 dud in the series opener.
The Yankees' starter Tuesday will be Phil Hughes, who is 7-6 with a 4.98 ERA.
Cleveland, 37-35, is a half-game behind the Chicago White Sox for first place in the AL Central. The third-place Detroit Tigers, who are slowly piling up some wins, are 1.5 back of Cleveland.
First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 7:05 Eastern.
