The Cleveland Indians will send a pair of players to the 2012 All-Star Game at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City later this month, as infielder Asdrubal Cabrera and closer Chris Perez were each named to the American League squad as expected.
Cabrera, who is hitting .296 with 11 home runs, will join fellow middle infielders Ian Kinsler and Elvis Andrus as reserves off the bench, as the Yankees duo of Robinson Cano and Derek Jeter will each man the 2B-SS starting positions for AL manager Ron Washington.
The outspoken Perez is one of five relief pitchers on the team, and will make his second consecutive trip to baseball's midseason event as the Indians closer. Perez is tied with Baltimore's Jim Johnson for the AL lead in saves with 23, and has really cut down drastically on his walks en route to a career-best 1.02 WHIP at the moment.
