Former Indian and current Yankees ace C.C. Sabathia is scheduled to come off the disabled list to start Friday night against his old club, as Cleveland welcomes New York to Progressive Field for the first game of a three-game weekend series. The Indians plan to start right-hander Corey Kluber.
Sabathia spent more than seven seasons in Cleveland, going 106-71 with a 3.83 ERA and winning the 2007 Cy Young Award. He was traded to Milwaukee at the 2008 trade deadline, then signed with the Yankees as a free agent before the 2008 season. In 2012, Sabathia is 12-3 with a 3.56 ERA, and is returning from a stint on the 15-day disabled list for elbow inflammation.
The Indians return home from a west coast road trip where they lost eight of nine games and were swept in consecutive series by the A's and Mariners. Kluber, the designated starter Friday, is 0-2 in his four starts for Cleveland with a 6.27 ERA.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 ET. Television coverage is available on SportsTime Ohio, and the radio broadcast is on WTAM 1100.
