Cleveland Indians Designate Shelley Duncan; Recall Jeanmar Gomez

The Cleveland Indians have designated DH and outfielder Shelley Duncan for assignment and recalled right-handed pitcher Jeanmar Gomez from Triple-A Columbus. Gomez actually appeared in Wednesday's game against the Oakland Athletics, pitching one perfect inning of relief.

Duncan has struggled this year batting only .203 with a .676 OPS with 11 homes runs in 81 games after a solid 2011 season in which he posted a .808 OPS. After a promising July Duncan's struggles have gotten worst in August, as he has hit just .120 with 14 strikeouts in 50 at-bats.

The 24-year-old Gomez has appeared in 15 games for the Indians this season with 13 starts, posting a 4-7 record and earning an ERA of 5.11.
