Jeanmar Gomez Moved To Bullpen, David Huff Takes Spot In Indians Rotation

The Cleveland Indians have decided to move Jeanmar Gomez to the bullpen and shift David Huff into the starting rotation, according to manager Manny Acta. The news comes via Paul Hoynes of The Plain Dealer, who provides some interesting quotes from Acta as well:

"Originally, that was our plan -- to start Huff," Acta said. "But then Roberto Hernandez got hurt and we needed Gomez to replace him in the rotation. We really haven't thought of Huff as a reliever at all," Acta said. "When we recalled him, he wasn't coming here to do that much pitching. We wanted him to work on his mechanics with [pitching coach] Ruben [Niebla]."

Huff, a 28-year-old former first-round pick of the Indians, has posted a 5.37 career ERA and a 16-25 record over the course of his four years in the major leagues (264.2 innings). Huff will make his first start this season on Tuesday against the Minnesota Twins.
