Cleveland Indians president Mark Shapiro and general manager Chris Antonetti will retain their jobs for next season, according to Paul Hoynes of The Plain Dealer. That news comes in the wake of the firing of manager Manny Acta, who will be replaced by bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr. for the remainder of the season.
Throughout the first half of the season, it appeared that Shapiro and Antonetti built a contender in the AL Central, as the Indians spent 40 days in first place and entered the All-Star break with a respectable 44-41 record. However, the second half has been a tailspin of mammoth proportions for the Tribe, as they've gone 21-50 while falling into a tie for last place.
Despite the poor finish this year, along with a similar poor second-half performance in 2011, Shapiro and Indians CEO Paul Dolan still believe in Antonetti's overall plan and vision for the organization, says MLB.com's Jordan Bastian.
