With their loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday, the Columbus Blue Jackets guaranteed themselves the position of last place in the NHL as the season nears its end. At this point, all they can do is hope to play spoiler to playoff hopeful teams -- as they did against Carolina last week -- and try to finish the season strong.
The Detroit Red Wings are still a bit shaken up by injuries as they try to heal up for the homestretch. Both of their top two goalies are injured which means that Ty Conklin will likely start in net against Steve Mason. They've gotten Nicklas Lidstrom and Pavel Datsyuk back though, a good sign for their playoff hopes as they try and push back up after falling a fair amount in the standings the past month.
Detroit has always dominated the Jackets at home, so Columbus will need their best game to take home a victory at the Joe. The two teams will meet again one final time in Columbus on Wednesday to finish their season series.
The game will be at Joe Louis Arena at 7:30 p.m. ET.
