With all the news and rumors swirling around Urban Meyer and a potential head coaching gig with the Ohio State Buckeyes comes a lot of speculation. After the rumors were initially established by a phantom post on Scout.com (via this tweet), ElevenWarriors.com posted a string of tweets regarding a potential deal. Their Twitter account noted that they were "99.7%" sure that Meyer had agreed to a deal to coach the Buckeyes.
ElevenWarriors.com is an Ohio State fan site, and a generally reputable one at that. While there's certainly no confirmation from any official sources, their reports are worth nothing. On Friday afternoon, they posted a piece clarifying many things that they've said thus far. First, they went ahead to note the things they did not say:
Before we dive into what we do know, it's important to point out what we're not saying:
- Urban Meyer was not in Columbus yesterday or anytime in the last couple of weeks.
- There is no contract in place between Urban Meyer and Ohio State. Nothing signed, whatsoever.
The piece goes on to mention some things they've learned through sources that they trust. These things include reports that Meyer and Ohio State have had a long-time mutual interest, that some numbers have been swapped and Meyer has agreed in principle to take over the job next year and that both sides are simply waiting for the NCAA to approve the hiring.
Despite the general reputable nature of Eleven Warriors, all of this information should be taken with a grain of salt until some more pertinent information from more sources comes out.
