The Kansas Jayhawks have had their troubles will mid-major teams in the past. Tonight, however, they dominated a talented Richmond Spiders team right from the start while cruising to a 77-57 win in San Antonio.
Brady Morningstar scored 18 points for Kansas(35-2) who looked every bit the part of the No. 1 seed. Richmond, however, looked overmatched as Kansas raced to a 41-22 lead. Much like the first game of the night between North Carolina and Marquette, Kansas seemed the more relaxed team right from the tip – by the time Richmond had settled down to play basketball, it was too late.
Richmond made a bit of a run in the second half, cutting the lead 47-32 with 16 minutes to go, but Kansas answered with a 17-10 run extending the lead back to 22 with 7 minutes to go.
Justin Harper led the Spiders(29-8) with 22 points and 9 rebounds while the Jayhawks dominated the boards 40-33. Kansas awaits the winners of tonight’s VCU – Florida St. contest.
