College Football Saturday Sees A Full Slate Of Games For 'Our' Teams

Besides Ohio State’s game in Florida against the Miami Hurricanes (which will surely garner most of the attention of area fans), two of our local teams will also be on the road on Saturday, as the Akron Zips travel downstate to take on the Cincinnati Bearcats, and the Kent St. Golden Flashes go all the way to Kansas to play the Kansas St. Wildcats.

Akron is 0-2 in 2011, including a road loss to the Buckeyes, and will be facing a Cincinnati team that comes in at 1-1. the Bearcats destroyed Austin Peay 72-10, then were themselves thrashed by the Tennessee Volunteers 45-23.

The Zips, after losing to Ohio State in the opening week, were beaten last week by Temple 41-3.

Poor Akron has been outscored 83-3 in its two games. Let’s hope they can give a good showing in their 3:30 matchup in the Queen City.

Kansas St. is 1-0 after a narrow 10-7 win over Eastern Kentucky at home two weeks ago, while the Flashes are 0-2. Kent St. lost on "opening day" 48-7 at Alabama. No shame in being blown out by the second-ranked Crimson Tide.

But then Kent came home and was beaten by Lousiana-Lafayette 20-12, so needless to say, they will need a much better effort to stay in the game against the Wildcats in their 7:00 contest tonight.
