Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer said on Wednesday that fullback Zach Boren will get a start at linebacker on Saturday vs. the Purdue Boilermakers. Boren, a senior, has played fullback exclusively during his career at Ohio State but was moved to defense prior to last week's game due to a rash of injuries among the linebackers.
In that game against the Indiana Hoosiers, Boren picked up eight solo tackles. Boren was an award-winning defender in high school, and told reporters on Wednesday that he's been wanting to play linebacker for the Buckeyes "for a while." He also told the press that he's stayed keyed into Ohio State's defensive schemes.
The Buckeyes are currently dealing with an injury to star linebacker Etienne Sabino that is likely to keep him out for three more weeks. Freshman Joshua Perry is also banged up, while fellow freshmen Camren Williams and David Perkins have not earned the trust of Ohio State's coaching staff.
