Big Ten Tournament: Number One Seed at Stake?

This could be one of the best and most competitive Big Ten tournaments in recent history. With five teams in the top 15 and a three way tie for first place in the conference, this promises to be March Madness at its finest.

The Ohio State Buckeyes actually had the best overall record in the Big Ten, but they will be the third seed in the tournament. The outcome of this tournament is going to be huge for whatever team winds up winning, and it could be a huge loss for the team that falls short.

Between Michigan, Ohio State, and Michigan State, I think a top seed is potentially on the line here for the tournament later this month. These teams have been incredibly competitive all year long, all have quality wins, and all have questionable losses. To win the Big Ten tournament this year is not just an automatic ticket punch to the dance, it’s also potentially a top seed for three different teams who share the conference title.

Heck, you could even include the Wisconsin Badgers in the discussion for the top seed. What if Indiana wins the Big Ten tournament? Is there body of work enough to be a one seed? All of these teams will make the tournament, but matchups matter this time of year.

The Big Ten usually sends a bunch of teams to the tournament, but I can’t remember the quality of competition being this strong in recent years. Whoever wins this tournament is going to get a very favorable review by the selection committee.
