The newest Cleveland Cavalier is saying all the right things. Baron Davis posted a note of thanks on his Facebook page to Los Angeles Clippers while assuring Cavaliers fans that he is on his way to Cleveland:

First and foremost, I want to say thank you to the fans in LA and all of Clipper Nation. Not many guys get the chance to play at home in front of their family and friends the way I have been able to the past couple seasons, and I am grateful for that opportunity. My former teammates will always be my family, and I wish them and the organization nothing but the best.

I can’t wait to join my new team, bring good energy and help us win games. I’m ready to call The Q home and bring some excitement!!!

See you soon Ohio! The Beard is on its way!

Just as agent Bill Duffy said, Davis is saying and doing all the right things. Let’s hope it continues. I, for one, am ready to give him the benefit of the doubt.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired center Semih Erden and forward Luke Harangody from the Boston Celtics in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, Cavaliers general manager Chris Grant announced today. The Cavaliers also waived forward Leon Powe.

“Semih and Luke are two young players that we’ve liked dating back to their respective drafts. Each has worked hard, continued to grow and proven themselves on the court this season,” said Grant. “Luke and Semih also understand what winning culture is about and we’re happy to have them as part of our team. We look forward to their continued growth with us.”

Erden, 24, has played in 37 games (seven starts) this season, averaging 4.1 points on .598 shooting and 2.9 rebounds in 14.4 minutes per game. The 7-foot, 240-pound rookie from Turkey was selected with the 60th overall pick of the 2008 NBA Draft. He has seven seasons of international experience, playing the last five seasons (2005-2010) with Fenerbache Ulker Istanbul of the Turkish League.

With the Celtics during the 2010-11 season, he scored in double figures on four occasions and grabbed seven or more rebounds in five games this season. Semih Erden (pronounced SEM-ee Err-DEN) posted a season-high 14 points on a perfect 5-5 shooting and added seven rebounds in 30 minutes versus Utah on Jan. 21.

Harangody, 23, is averaging 2.3 points on .394 shooting and 2.0 rebounds in 8.6 minutes per game in 28 games (zero starts). He was selected with the 52nd overall pick of the 2010 NBA Draft after receiving All-American honors and being an All-BIG EAST First Team Selection in three consecutive seasons (2008-2010), including being named Big East Player of the Year in 2008, in four seasons at Notre Dame. The 6-foot-8, 246-pound power forward recorded his first NBA career double-double with 17 points on 8-11 shooting (.727) and 11 rebounds versus Toronto on Jan. 7.

The 2013 second-round pick headed to Boston was acquired by the Cavaliers from Minnesota on July 26, 2010 along with Ramon Sessions and Ryan Hollins in exchange for Sebastian Telfair and Delonte West.

Powe has played in 34 games (five starts) for the Cavaliers since being signed as a free agent before the 2009-10 season and averaged 4.4 points on .463 shooting and 2.9 rebounds in 12.4 minutes per game.

“We thank Leon for his contributions on and off the court and our entire organization wishes him and his family the best in the future,” said Grant.

The Cleveland Cavaliers made one last deal before the NBA trade deadline on Thursday, acquiring center Semih Erden and forward Luke Harangody from the Boston Celtics for a 2013 second-round pick.

Erden, a 6-11 center, will provide the Cavaliers some size in the middle they are desperately lacking with the injury to Anderson Varejao. In limited time, Erden is averaging 4.1 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

Harangody is also a rookie averaging 2.3 points in 8.6 minutes per game. He was the Big East Player of the Year at Notre Dame in 2009.

Recently acquired guard Baron Davis will report to the Cavaliers and will play hard – that according to Bill Duffy, Davis’ agent, in an interview with the Sporting News earlier today.

“He was shocked by it, like everyone,” Bill Duffy of BDA Sports said. “He liked playing with Blake Griffin, they had a nice chemistry going. But the Clippers made a decision. Baron will go to Cleveland, and he will play and be a good soldier.”

Davis wasn’t the key part of the deal for the Cavaliers – they really wanted that 1st Round pick – but a Baron Davis that plays hard is still a Baron Davis that can fill up the stat-sheet, and Davis has 28 million reasons to play nice in Cleveland. We shall see…

ESPN’s Marc Stein is reporting that the Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors may be discussing a trade that would send F Antawn Jamison back to where his career started. While it is unknown right now who would be involved in the trade, Stein reports that a deal could work involving Troy Murphy and Andris Biedrins:

If such a deal featured Murphy going to Cleveland for Jamison, it’s believed that the Cavaliers would then buy out Murphy before next Tuesday’s deadline to keep the veteran power forward eligible to appear in the playoffs with another team.

That would mean the target for the Cavaliers in the deal would be some financial savings, as well as Biedrins.

With less than an hour remaining until the NBA trade deadline, the Cleveland Cavaliers are “down to the wire” in listening to trade offers for swingman Anthony Parker, says Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. The 35-year-old has made 41 starts in 48 appearances for the Cavs this season and has connected on 41 percent of his three-point tries, making him a potentially valuable addition to a playoff team looking to spread the floor. The Boston Celtics, says Wojnarowski, are “still in the mix” for his services.

In his eighth season, the well-travelled Parker is respected around the league for his shooting, defense, and basketball IQ. Trading him would open up more minutes on the wing for the 21-year-old rookie Christian Eyenga, averaging 8.4 points this season. The rebuilding Cavaliers appear to have little use for a veteran like Parker. But, knowing his value is high right now, they’ve resisted dealing him as of yet.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired the Los Angeles Clippers’ first round pick in the 2011 NBA Draft and guard Baron Davis from the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for guard Mo Williams and forward Jamario Moon, Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant announced today.

“We’re excited to make this move. Baron is a very talented player at a position that’s a difficult position in this league,” said Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant. “We’ve also created another very good opportunity for ourselves as we continue to build this franchise moving forward with another high first round draft pick.”

Davis, 31, is averaging 12.8 points on .416 shooting, 2.8 rebounds, 7.0 assists (14th in the NBA) and 1.4 steals in 29.6 minutes per game in 43 games (35 starts) this season. In his 12 seasons in the NBA, he has career averages of 16.5 points on .409 shooting, 3.9 rebounds and 7.3 assists in 34.9 minutes per game in 791 games (669 starts). Among all active players, he ranks fourth (J. Kidd, S. Nash and A. Miller) in total assists (5,798) and is one of just seven players with over 13,000 career points and 5,000 assists (J. Kidd, S. Nash, C. Billups, M. Bibby, A. Miller and K. Bryant). The 6-foot-3, 212-pound point guard was named an all-star on two occasions (2002 and 2004).

The 2011 first round pick acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers is unprotected, meaning the Cavaliers own the pick in the upcoming draft no matter what selection it is.

“As an organization, ownership, all the way down, we’d like to thank Mo and Jamario and wish them and their families the best,” said Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant. “We appreciate their contributions to our franchise, both on the court and off, as they helped take us to some pretty high levels over the last two years.”

Williams is averaging 13.3 points on .385 shooting, 2.7 rebounds and 7.1 assists in 29.6 minutes per game in 36 games (34 starts) this season. In 186 career games (183 starts) with Cleveland, he averaged 16.2 points on .443 shooting, 3.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists in 33.7 minutes per game. He ranks second in franchise history in free throw shooting (.890), sixth in three-point percentage (.408) and seventh in three-pointers made (378).

Moon has averages of 4.7 points on .402 shooting, 3.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 19.1 minutes per game in 40 games (13 starts) in 2010-11. In 101 career games (15 starts) with the Cavaliers, he averaged 4.8 points on .436 shooting and 3.1 rebounds in 18.0 minutes per game.
